Living in Fantasy

My kids LOVE fantasy. Right now we have Prince Caspian going in the car, the second of the Fablehaven books plays on the CD player, I read aloud Dinotopia, and my kids each have their Harry Potter books they read when nothing else is being read aloud to them. You would start to think all these stories would get jumbled and mixed up and they do.  So many of the types of beings are in each of these stories and I personally get all the Naiads mixed up with Dryads and so forth. When my kids play they have characters from Narnia attending classes at Hogwarts and they talk about what it would be like if dinosaurs dueled giants.

Sometimes I wonder if my kids need to read some books from other genres. But then I think back and remember that they have listened to or read quite a few historical fiction, some biographies,  a bunch of nonfiction, and even a mystery makes its way in once in awhile.  I seem to pick up a whole lot of science related books scattered about my house every day as well. So I guess despite the fact that fantasy seems to be the genre of choice at the moment. I think my kids do read or have read to them a wide variety of topics and genres. Fantasy is just fun and exciting and has a lot of scope for the imagination.
I can't complain, and have to admit that I too love listening to reading these books right along with the kids. I just finished rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows so that I will be ready for the movie that comes out shortly. I guess I set the example and they follow.

We do actually put the books down and head outside for some sunshine a bit too.

No complaints here!

We're the same way. We're on the last Narnia book. C's rereading Harry Potter and C and A are both reading through the Ranger's Apprentice series and the 39 Clues books. I'm kind of looking forward to getting back into some nonfiction and historical books again next month.
