Wordful Wednesday - Love Songs

I have been trying to post something for Cocoa's Wordful Wednesday the last few weeks. I get started with a post and then I have little guys that need attention and I never seem to finish the post. This weeks topic is a pretty easy one. This week she asks us to talk about love songs. I wouldn't say my husband and I have "a song". But the first song that came to mind was the Beatles song I Will.

My husband and I are a number of years different in age and the songs we each remember from our childhoods are very different but we both really love listening to the Beatles. When we were dating he took me to the county fair where there was a group called Rain was going to perform. They impersonated the Beatles and we had a great time. While on our honeymoon in London my husband arranged for us to take a Beatles tour which took us to all the notable Beatles sites about London. We have a picture of us crossing Abby Road. So while the song I Will isn't really my particular favorite of the Beatles songs it certainly is a simple, sweet love song.

After being married for awhile and as children have taken over much of our time and energy I think the song that sums up our relationship now is the song On the Front Porch with You from the Disney movie Summer Magic. We hear it every once in awhile on some of the CD's the kids listen to and it makes us grin everytime.

Here are the Lyrics to the song.

On the Front Porch

Written by: Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman
Performed by: Burl Ives

Three creaky wooden stairs
Those squeaky rocking chairs
The well worn welcome mat
The lattice vines
The happy times

All I want to do
When the day is through
Is linger here on the front porch
With you
From the wicker swing
While the night birds sing
We'll watch the fireflies sparkin'
Do some sparkin' too
How the hours fly
As the moon drifts by --
How sweet the air
As we stare
At the sight
Oh! How I love to linger here like this
Hold your hand, and steal a kiss
Or two
On the front porch with you

All I want to do
When the day is through
Is linger here on the front porch
With you
From the wicker swing
While the night birds sing
We'll watch the fireflies sparkin'
Do some sparkin' too
(Some sparkin' too!)
How the hours fly
As the moon drifts by --
How sweet the air
As we stare
At the sight

Oh! How I love to linger here like this
Hold your hand, and steal a kiss
Or two
On the front porch with you

So those are our songs I guess.

I grew up on Haley Mills and I love Summer Magic! We must have the same Disney CD because I listen to this song a lot. I wish I could play it on guitar. I also wish I could do it justice singing it. Good choice!

I loved the "Summer Magic" song! I still don't understand the infatuation with those druggies, the Beatles.........
