Learning to Ride

For Sophie's birthday yesterday we took her to pick out a new bike. She wanted one with training wheels but the bikes that were the right size for her don't have them or at least don't come with the bike. I told her we should get the right size bike and just learn how to ride it.So today we spent some time out in the driveway and out on the cul-de-sac near our house going back and forth. I did a lot of running along side her as she tittered along on her new set of wheels. She was in tears a few times and very frustrated but we just kept trying and trying. As the sun was setting today we decided we needed to head home. She actually road her bike home from the cul-de-sac, where we had all been for the last hour, all by herself, (with Dad running along side her but not touching the bike). She was so proud.
I am sure we will be at it for awhile perfecting the skill. She still needs work getting going on her own. But at least she is going once she is up.

See she didn't need training wheels!

How exciting she learned to ride a 2 wheeler! It's such a great accomplishment- for her and to you as a Mom! Now you wont be able to keep her off her bike!

What a great-looking bike! I'm so glad that she is learning how to ride. Once she acquires the skill she will always be able to use it. I wish I had a bike. . . .

it is so exhilarating (for child and parent) when they get it! our oldest was 8 when he finally was willing to pay the price (some crashing and scrapes) to figure it out. he and henry took their training wheels off on the same day--and they have never looked more proud.
